Cat advice
Cat advice sought.

Looking to get a first kitten for my home, plenty of time/space since my mate Jonesy moved out.

* Pedigree cat. British blue shorthair?
* Ginger tom from private seller for a ton to less than a carpet
* Animal shelter. Concerned they might be difficult/scared.

What's the best to go for?

"Animal shelter. Concerned they might be difficult/scared."

Hmm. Why? Because they might have been mistreated and are frightened/not socialised/don't trust humans?

See the Stafford thread.

Re: Cat advice
You're be able to tell if they're scared.

Difficult? How difficult can a cat be?

Unless you meant to say "cub" instead of "kitten"...

I'd get one from here.

Re: Cat advice
Get ginger Tom will live to 20 years old+ pedigrees die earlier around 14

Plus you want a cat that sticks up for itself rather that gets abused by all the locals

Re: Cat advice
As with dogs, don't bother with a pedigree unless you're prepared for a (shortened) lifetime of ailments and vet bills (yes I know, not every breed, but still).

Get a bog standard moggy. I'd say get one from a shelter as it's definitely the right thing to do (and for dogs - too many shelter animals are put down as no one wants them), but then you would miss out on the kitten stage and kittens are fucking brilliant animals.

If you're gonna go for a pedigree, get a large Maine
coon (bit racist) - basically a domestic cat the size of a Labrador.

Go to Wood Green animal shelter and let one chose you.

It's near Duxford.

I would get a couple of Bengal kittens if I could trust them not to trash my SPLENDID LAMPS.

(that is not a euphemism for my breasts)

It would be a little immodest to christen them that yourself.

Re: Cat advice
Get a maine coon cross if you can find one. Loving animals, have enough attitude to defend your territory but will be affectionate.

We have one called Ralphy, completely changed my mind about cats.

Re: Cat advice
Mentioning Ginger Tom as had one on my street growing up who had great personality.

Would like to get a kitten so can experience that as well, and obviously as said they would get nabbed at a shelter. So may go private.

Sounds like the pedigrees could be difficult and not stick up for themselves locally.

Re: Cat advice
Get a large dog after you've acquired the kitten, and let the dog eat it.

Cats are useless, selfish animals who like torturing innocent, fluffy things.

Re: Cat advice
A Maine Coon is definitely the way forward. I'd been a dog person all my life until circumstances meant it wasn't practical. Ended up with one of these fuckers by chance and they're great. Like dogs but less of a burden. Proper attitude but great company.

(I'd still prefer a dog but I work too much)
